Kris Madden led the project team for TTF Australia’s Natural Tourism Partnerships Initiative, including research and the development of an action plan for sustainable tourism development in Australia’s national parks and protected areas. In partnership with state and local government agencies, the tourism industry and the wider community, the report delivered a set of recommendations to the Australian government for a more effective, efficient and equitable system for managing tourism in Australia’s protected areas.

Kris Madden was contracted to develop a sustainable tourism strategy and action plan for Tourism Australia, Australia’s international tourism marketing body. The project involved extensive liaison with the Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources; Department of Environment and Heritage; State Tourism Organisations and NGOs and outlined a vision and policy for Tourism Australia’s sustainable tourism activities. Kris Madden has been involved in the development of the whale-watching industry in Australia and the South Pacific for a number of years. She provided input to the Australian Government’s National Guidelines for Whale and Dolphin Watching, and has worked with operators and government on the development of whale-watching guidelines in Tonga. She also works as an eco guide and interpreter taking groups of people whale-watching and swimming with whales.
